2D II Composition

Welcome Back!
And welcome to your first blogging experience in 2D II. We will use this forum as a way to intelligently talk about art and critique it, as well as getting feedback from classmates on your own work.

Topic I: Composition
Please select the following work of art that you believe to have the best composition. Defend your choice by Specifically stating at least 2 reasons for your decision. Reading others' justifications may help to get you back into the swing of things and get your "art eye" back out. Composition is a tough thing to fully grasp. We will be spending a good deal of time on this topic this year!

I think that the first picture's composition is the best. There is a clear distiction that the positive space at the top is the focal point. There are also lines that flow from the top right, where the focal point appears to be, to the bottom right so that your eye moves in that direction. The composition has movement, and a focal point the follows the rule of thirds, which makes it the best of all five.

I think that the 4th picture's composition is the best. The artist used the rule of thirds effectively, placing the women on the left as apposed to the center. Her dress allows the movement of the eye from the negative to the positive space, breaking the line going horizontally across the picture.

I think the fourth pictures compisition is the best. The woman is clearly the focal point. The colors in the background contradict eacother making your eyes move around the pae . The vase also balances the posotive and negative space.

I think that the second piece has the best composition. The piece has a distinct focal point that isnt centered. Also out of all the pictures this piece has the best movement. Your eye first goes to the lips where the light is the brightest((the focal point)) and then your eye moves back to the nose which is the second brightest and then finally back to the eyes in the back of the room.

I think that the 2nds composition is the best because the lips are obviously the focal point and it has the diagnal arrangement which makes your eyes move throughout the picture, then on the sides it has enough negative space to give your eyes a rest but not make the picture boring.

I think that the first picture has the best composition. The artist puts the focal point in the top right so it wouldn't be centered, following the rule of thirds. The line going down the right of the page creates good eye movement. Unlike, the other paintings that are more centered with less eye movement.

i think the first work of art is the best also. The focal point is not in the center of the picture, making your eye move about the page to look at everything and take it all in. There is some negative space creating a balance between positive and negative space and also so your eye can rest and not give people headaches.

I think the first picture has the best composition. The artist uses black and white which creates good contrast and helps the focal point really stand out, but the lines really make your eyes move. There s also a good amount of negative space for your eyes to rest.

I THINK THE FOURTH PICTURE HAS THE BEST COMPOSITION! THE GOLDEN YELLOWISH HARP WAS THE FOCAL POINT, AND ITS TO LEFT OF THE PICTURE A LITTLE BIT, WHICH MAKES IT GOOD COMPOSITION! THE PICTURE ALSO LEAVES A LARGE NEGATIVE SPACE WHICH LETS YOUR EYES REST!

I think da first picture has the best composition. The focal point is clear and not centered. Your eye moves through the piece easily and there is a good balence of positive and negative space.

I believe that the composition of the first picture is the best. You are immediately drawn towards the faces in the upper right corner, and then follow the line of contrasting black and white throughout the rest of the piece. This picture effectively follows the rule of thirds, and appears to have the most interesting composition of the five pieces.

I believe that the fourth from the top is the best composition. It is the most pleasing to the eye. When looking at it the blocks of color, the lines and the detail all lead to her face.

In my opinion, the second piece is the best for composition. The colors are repeated and spread throughout the artwork, and the angle of the picture makes it easier for eye movement. Aside from all of that, when you pay close attention and try to observe each of the components that create the face, it makes your eyes buzz around aswell.

I think the fourth piece had the best composition. While the woman was clearly the focal point, there was a lot more to the painting than just her. The focal point was not centered, and the vase on the right side helped balance it. The sky and ground gave some negative space. There was plenty of eye movement which made this painting interesting to look at.

sorry wargo, i forgot till i went to bed last night cuz i had AP hw to do!

so i believe that the first piece has the best compost a few reasons; All of the lines(but not a crazy amount)allow you eye to move around the page, the second reason i believe this has the greatest composition is the fact that it has a nice balance of positive and negative space, the larger blocks of color(or black) allow your eye
to rest.

I personally think the second piece has the best composition. The focal point starts at the top where the paintings are which is not centered at all... then drags your eye all the way to the bottom...creating movement in order for you to see that the four objects create a face. There is also a nice amount of negative space allowing your eyes to rest.

I believe the first picture is the one with the best composition. The focal point is not centered, but in the upper right hand corner. Smooth lined lead from the focal point to the rest of the piece, causing your eye to constantly move across the whole piece. Not only does it have good composition, but it also has a phenominal use of positive and negative space. These are the reasons for which i believe the first picture to have the best composition of the five.

my favorite picture would have to be the face made of different objects. the reason i like it so much is because it gives you alot to look at and also is cool. i feel that it also has very good composition all tho its focal points are not it is still the most interesting and most proportional... sorry Mrs.wargo for this being so late but i finally got it to work thank you.
